Stop Sign

Symbols from everyday life can bring musical concepts to life.

Dora wouldn't observe one quarter rest. No matter what we tried. We'd highlighted it, we'd clapped it. It wasn't happening. She wasn't trying to forget, she just couldn't seem to remember.

"Why don't you draw a stop sign for yourself?"

Her eyes lit up. She drew it in pencil (always dangerous to write anything in pen at first) and then colored it in with red highlighter.

She was thrilled. Remember, this was only fun because she did it herself. If I'd done it for her it would not have been anywhere near as successful.

Anybody you know who might need to draw a stop sign?
